Art @ Solel

Welcome to Art Showcase

Art Showcase, featuring art by Temple members, is currently showing an exhibit of black and white and infrared photographs by Ira Thomas. The images are available for viewing in the North Hallway (between the Library and the Social Hall) and will be available through May 31, 2014. A “Meet the Artist” interactive discussion will be held on Sunday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m.

All works are for sale at special prices, and part of the proceeds will benefit the temple’s art scholarship initiative. Contact Ira Thomas at 602-374-7885 or for more information and pricing.

Ira’s photography shows a unique view of nature that tests the line between reality and abstraction.

The Art @ Solel Committee was formed two years ago to manage the Temple's current art collection and to promote art as a community activity.

Art @ Solel is a committee dedicated to the preservation and advancement of art at Temple Solel.

  • An ongoing register of all art owned and/or on loan to the Temple is maintained by the committee. Documentation includes an illustration, history, donor(s), artist biography and estimated value.
  • Those works are maintained, prepared and displayed at various times within the Temple building, the objective of which is to provide our members with a pleasing and educational art environment. Printed folders and labeling document many of the works and displays.
  • Finally, the committee is involved in new art projects such as member shows, seasonal exhibitions, a sculpture garden and docent tours to enhance members' appreciation of the permanent and on-loan collection.

Art @ Solel Scholarship

The Art @ Solel Committee is pleased to announce the annual Art @ Solel Scholarship. The committee will be awarding one or more scholarships of at least $200.00. A student must have demonstrated an interest in the arts during their education or extra-curricular activities and have intentions to attend college in the fall of 2014 to be eligible for an award. Students must also have submitted their application to Pamela Ornstein, Art @ Solel Chairperson, by April 30, 2014.

In short, the committee has approved adding money to the scholarship fund to increase both the amounts and the number of scholarships available. $200 is the minimum of the amount we will award and will depend on number given.
